Modeling TLE’s and TGF’s
Modeling TLE’s and TGF’s workshop at the Lorentz Center@Snellius, Oct. 20 – 24, 2014
Topics of this workshop are methods and models that reach from microscopics to macroscopics:
- Proper cross-sections from the discharge regime (0.03 eV to 1 keV) to higher energies (here up to 100 MeV), based on research of other communities (CERN, extended air showers, nuclear and radiation medicine, …)
- Deriving fluid models from these cross-sections
- Efficient calculations with MC and fluid models
- Proper initial conditions for simulating discharges in particular regions of the atmosphere, which mechanisms to include where
- Including space charge effects in 2D and 3D computing, solving the Poisson equation
- Larger scale models of DBM-type
- Longer time dynamics: discharge chemistry, discharge heating, coupling of plasma and gas flow
